About me
My name is Alyssa Van Boxmeer, and I am glad you are here!
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and I have a passion for treating people with anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) along with their family members and loved ones. I have over 10 years of experience in a variety of settings including private practice, community and school based settings, inpatient/residential, partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), and outpatient levels of care.
My treatment is grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the gold standard for OCD and anxiety-related disorders. I also incorporate mindfulness-based approaches to help clients develop greater self-awareness, flexibility, and self-compassion. I view therapy as a collaborative process and strive to create a space where clients feel supported, understood, and empowered to make meaningful changes in their lives.
I received my undergraduate degree in Wellness Management and Psychology from State University of New York at Oswego followed by my Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy with a focus on cultural competency from Pacific Oaks College in Pasadena, CA. Since then I have continued my education in Kerela, India becoming a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT 200hr) which nicely compliments ACT and mindfulness concepts in my therapy sessions. I enjoy creating a space for clients to practice non-judgmental awareness while utilizing warmth and humor to help us navigate the journey to practicing more values based living.
I love my role as a mother to a rambunctious toddler and a wife of a pilot. I enjoy hiking, gardening, reading a good book, networking with other therapists, advocating for OCD awareness, and spending time enjoying new people, places, and things.
